Thieves steal $ 50,000 from Springfield, Missouri game store

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Springfield Gamemasters are asking for help finding who stole goods worth $ 50,000.

The store has been in operation since the 1980s. It used to sell baseball cards, now it sells Pokémon and magic cards. That’s the majority of what they carry.

“I would say a pretty good community here in Springfield,” said Dyan Westfall, the manager of Gamemaster.

The store closes at 9 p.m., so when the security system heard activity at 1 a.m. Westfall knew something was up.

Two people broke into the store. Westfall watched everything happen from his phone.

“They went into that display case to break that glass,” Westfall explains. “They went straight to that corner where the box was and started to collect everything.”

The box he’s talking about is a basic Pokémon booster box. It’s full of original versions of the cards. Westfall says the value of rare cards is between $ 30,000 and $ 50,000.

Here’s the thing, the burglars seemed to know exactly where to go.

“We think it was someone who’s been in the store before,” Westfall says. “You can see that they come right in through the door and walk straight to this showcase. I broke the glass and started grabbing stuff.

Other local card stores around the Ozarks are looking for products to start selling.

“I don’t understand why you would pick something up from a local store of all places,” Westfall says.

If you have any information about the burglary, contact the Springfield Police Department.

And if you’re one of the burglars, we understand, you’ve got to catch them all. But maybe it’s better to just give this one back. Westfall says you can even drop everything off in front of the store.
